Our Favorite Bestselling Epilators:
Panasonic ES-WD51-P Epiglide Ladies Wet Dry Epilator
The Panasonic ES-WD51-P Epiglide Ladies Wet Dry Epilator is the number one bestseller. Why? Normally, this epilator retails for around $100. Panasonic just released its newest model, therefore you can find this model for a huge discount. There simply is no better value right now. When it was released, it received Good Housekeeping’s seal of approval.
It’s got a number of features that are usually reserved for higher-priced epilators. It’s wet/dry, it shaves, it trims, it epilates, and it is cordless. Essentially, it’s a 3-in-1 with a handy shaver and trimmer. In addition to the normal cap, there is even a beginner cap, which exposes less tweezers to the hair, which makes it great when you are just starting out. Since it is a wet and dry model, it is fully immersible in water. You can use it in the shower with soap and foam, which some women find more comfortable. It’s waterproof so you don’t have to worry. This makes it easy to clean under water. It’s got dual heads with a total of 48 tweezers, which is supposed to result in more efficient hair removal. Unlike lower-end models, the head swivels, making it hug the contours of the skin. The dual voltage feature means that you can take it around the world. We especially like the cordless feature. This fully cordless model charges in 1 hour and offers approximately 40 minutes of use.
How does it perform? Pretty well. Most customers seem to be in love with it. With over 250 reviews, it is averaging 4.0 stars. As far as epilators go, several users mentioned that this epilator is less painful than other epilator brands. Just keep in mind that pain is relative and pulling out hair from the root is going to hurt at first. With a reasonable price and features, it’s no wonder it is one of the best selling epilators right now.
What We Don’t Like:
For safety reasons, like other wet/dry models, this model can’t be used while it is plugged in or while charging. It’s a downside to all wet/dry models. This means that you have to fully charge it before you use it; a full charge offers roughly 40 minutes of use.
In the shower, the handle design is slippery and it would have been nice if it had a rubber grip. Most women like the wet/dry option, but hair tends to be stickier in the shower and it is hard to see hair under the foam.
Several users mentioned that you have to go over the same area several times before you get all the hair especially short and fine hair. Even though it has 48 tweezers, the way the epilator cap has been designed is to reduce the amount of pain experienced. This means compared to other epilators with 48 tweezers, the process can take more time. To maximize its use, it works best when the epilator is perfectly perpendicular (90-degrees) to the surface of the skin.
There is only one speed on this model. We wished there were at least two speed settings, as sometimes a different speed setting may work better for some people. Also, we would have liked to see a light on it so we could see any stray hair that we missed.
Braun 7681 Silk 7 Epilator
When it comes to epilators, the Braun 7681 right now is considered to be the top-of-the-line model and it comes with all the bells and whistles. It’s actually our pick for the best epilator for women and overall best epilator. What makes it the standout model? First off, this epilator comes with a number of caps that allow you to use it on the face, underarms, bikini area, and legs. Most women have used it on their legs, but some women have removed facial hair on their upper lips as well as chin area, forearms, armpits, and bikini area. It also contains a shaving and trimming head in case you want to trim hairs to the correct length or shave them off.
For beginners, Braun includes a special cap that is supposed to massage the skin to reduce the amount of pain. More experienced users can switch to the efficiency cap, which removes hair more efficiently.
The pivoting head allows it to move across the contours of the body better than other similar epilators. As you move the epilator along, the epilator head will adjust to your curves. Additionally, it has a nice ergonomic shape and lightweight body that make it easy to grip.
With two speed settings, it allows users to choose the speed that works best for them. The built-in light provides an almost daylight condition that let’s you find even the finest hairs that you missed. It charges in 1 hour and offers 40 minutes of continuous use. This model is fully immersible under water and waterproof, which means that you can not only use it in the shower but you also can clean it using soap and water.
It’s also nice not to be tied to a cord. This model is fully cordless. With 40 tweezers, Braun says that this epilator can remove hairs as small as 0.5 mm and most users find the claim to be accurate. One user claimed that it removes fine, short hairs better than previous models.
What We Don’t Like:
Being Braun’s current top-of-the-line model, it’s expensive. Honestly, if you are not planning on using this epilator on your whole body, most of the attachments are pretty unnecessary – except for the trimmer/shaver head. The Braun 7181 is the exact same model without the additional caps and trimmer/shaver head. With the Braun 7681 you get the shaver head, trimmer cap, underarm cap, and facial cap. It’s mostly plastic you can live without.
If you don’t need all the bells and whistles, save some money and go with the Braun 7181. It’s fine for 90% of women. Honestly, once you are used to epiliating, you won’t need the additional accessories. You can use the Braun 7181 on your whole body. The caps on the 7681 just cover up a portion of the epilator head, exposing less tweezers. The attachments are nice to have but not necessary. It’s only worth going with the 7681 if you think you are going to use any of the additional attachments. Most users actually find them to be useless. Don’t pay extra for something you don’t need.
The wet option is nice, but most people find that epilating, in general, works best in a dry environment. Still, it is convenient to be able to rinse the unit off under water. For safety reasons, like other wet/dry models, please note that you can’t use this model while it is plugged in or charging. It will not function if the battery is not charged.
Bellabe Facial Hair Remover
We named the Bellabe Facial Hair Remover the best epilator for the face. We all have hair on our face that we would like to remove. That is why every woman should own the Bellabe Facial Hair Remover. The Bellabe appeared on the Rachel Ray show and countless beauty blogs. We can’t believe more people don’t use this. Essentially, the Bellabe is a spring with two knobs on it and works similar to threading, except anyone can use it. It’s a manual epilator powered by a twisting action.
To use it, you simply bend the spring in half. Then you rotate the two knobs inward while at the same time moving the device across the face. It takes some time to master the technique, but it works. Seriously, you will wonder why you didn’t find about it earlier. Even if you don’t think you have noticeable facial hair, get this. Makeup goes on so smoothly and your face glows. It removes even the finest peach fuzz on the face, removing hair that you can’t even see. Skin looks cleaner and more radiant. It works on the upper lip, chin area, cheeks, neck area, and sideburns.
It’s so much faster than plucking. Tweezing every hair on the face is not practical, waxing is messy, and hair removal creams can burn skin. Women absolutely love that they don’t have be in front of a mirror to use it. You can even conveniently remove hair while watching TV. At under $20 and made in the USA, it’s one of the most affordable hair removal tools for the face and definitely worth a try.
What We Don’t Like:
Like all epilators, the Bellabe is going to hurt. In all honesty, it’s not a painless process. Applying ice to the area you are going to remove hair on and then using the Bellabe immediately thereafter can help numb the skin. It will certainly help with the initial pain. Over time, you get used to the pain.
There is a learning curve to using the Bellabe. If you don’t know how to use it, it will not work. Check out this YouTube video for a demonstration. Some hair can be tricky to remove especially around the chin, you have to get it at the right angle.
The Bellabe works better on fine hair. You might have to use tweezers on the more stubborn coarse ones. For 90% of women, it will grab most of the hair if you are patient. Just like any hair removal method, it might take a few passes. By varying how you twist and bend the spring, you can get super fine hair and even more coarse hair. The Bellabe should not be used to shape your eyebrows, it is just not precise enough.
If you have oily skin or acne, you may get a breakout after removing hair. Be sure to use something like 100% tea tree oil or something with benzoyl peroxide to prevent breakouts. It will kill the germs that cause whiteheads.
Because the spring will loosen over time, the company that makes Bellabe recommends you replace it every 6 to 9 months. It can last longer, but it depends on how much you use it.
