However, it is missing many of the additional caps of the Braun 7681. Most importantly, it is missing the useful efficiency cap of that model which allowed for more efficient epilation. Instead, here we get an exfoliation brush. While the exfoliation brush is not completely necessary, it does help to smooth skin.
We already reviewed the Braun 7681 and the Braun 7181 and for the most part, our review for the Braun 7921 largely remains the same.
The Braun 7921 is part of Braun’s Silk Epil 7 line. The actual epilator is exactly the same as the other epilators in the Silk Epil 7 line so its performance remains largely unchanged.
However, there are some major differences that you should be aware of before considering the Braun 7921. The Braun 7921 doesn’t include the facial, sensitive area cap, efficiency cap, or shaver head of the Braun 7681. It only includes the massaging cap. However, it includes a sonic exfoliating brush that Braun claims is 4X more effective than manual exfoliation at removing dead skin cells. Does it live up to this claim? Is it worth skipping out on the extras of the Braun 7681 for the exfoliating brush. Find out in our hands-on review.

Design
The Braun Silk Epil 7 Skin Spa has a nice clean design. The contour of the handle fits comfortably in your hand. The white body is perfectly complemented by the lilac color used on the dial. The sparkly shimmer on the bottom part gives it a nice feminine touch. Overall, the epilator feels solid and well built.
The design is both fashionable and user friendly. The exfoliating brush head can be interchanged with ease by pushing the release button on the back and snapping the brush on.
Sonic Exfoliating Brush
On this model, Braun has included an exfoliating brush. It’s nice that Braun has included exfoliation and epilation in one tool. Exfoliation is a great idea because it helps to unclog pores and prevent ingrown hair. When you remove the top layer of skin, skin seems to glow. According to Braun, the sonic massage system and high density brush on this model help scrub away old skin cells, providing better results than manual exfoliation.
You are supposed to use it two days prior to epilation to help prepare the skin. To use it, simply press the release button on the back of the epilator head and click on the brush attachment. You can select between two speeds. Using circular motions, you exfoliate the skin. Take care not to keep it in any area for too long.
While the brush does make skin look smoother, the brush alone isn’t worth paying extra for or upgrading to. In fact, it seems like it is not visibly doing anything at first. It isn’t until you squirt a little body wash or scrub on it that you notice better results. It can help make skin feel smoother and works well to calm the skin after epilation.
The exfoliating brush is designed to be used on the legs, arms, and body. The brush also works well to smooth out rough areas of the skin like the elbows, knees and underarms. It can also be used to smooth out the dry skin on your heels and balls of your feet. Although it looks like it could replace a Clarisonic brush, the brush head isn’t designed to be used on your face. It’s strictly a body brush. Using it on your face may result in raw skin or a scab.
You are supposed to replace the brush after 1 year with weekly usage.
Tweezers
The Braun 7921 contains 40 tweezers. It’s a good balance of tweezers. The more tweezers an epilator has, the faster you can remove hair. At the same time, it is more painful since you are removing more hair at once. With 72 tweezers, the Emjoi Emagine has the most tweezers.
Battery Life
In order to use this epilator, you must charge it for 1 hour prior to use. When you plug the epilator in, the green light on the epilator will flash. Once the light is solid, the epilator is fully charged.
Unfortunately, since this a wet and dry model, this epilator can’t be used when it is plugged in. It’s a safety feature of all wet and dry models.
Once charged, you get about 40 minutes of use. While this should be sufficient to do both your legs, we would have liked to see a longer battery life. According to Braun, the operation time may decrease when the epilator is used under water.
Once the red light on the epilator begins to flash, the epilator will begin slowing down. At this point, you should recharge it.
Plug Type
We love that Braun Silk Epilator is completely cordless. There is no wire to get in the way. You can use it in the shower or bathroom.
Speed Settings
Pressing down one of the white lock buttons and rotating the dial clockwise to the desired speed will turn on the epilator. There are two speeds on this epilator. The first speed is for gentle epilation and the second speed is for faster epilation.
At its top speed, the Braun 7921 provides 81,400 plucking actions per minute. With a faster rotation, it tends to miss less hair.
Smart Light
We were impressed with the Smart Light on the Braun Silk Epil 7921. The Smart Light comes on when you turn the epilator on and helps you see any hair that you missed. Even in a lighted room, it really helps you see the area you are epilating properly. However, we would have liked the ability to toggle it off and on. Depending on the area you are epilating, sometimes it can be too bright.
Noise Level
Epilators are pretty loud which can make them intimidating.
The Braun 7921 got around 70 decibels, which is less than a men’s electric razor. One way to drown out the noise is to use it under water in the tub.
Wet Epilation
We like that the Braun 7921 can either be used wet or dry. It can be a lot less painful under water. It’s a personal preference. You have the option of doing some areas under water and some areas dry. Because it is a wet and dry model, cleanup is a lot easier under water.
The epilator can get a bit slippery in water and the dial is a bit hard to turn. In the shower, hair tends to stick to the skin, making it easy to miss flat lying hairs. It works better when you use it under bath water, because the hairs are lifted up. Even with the Smart Light, it is hard to see if you have removed all the hair so you might have to make an additional pass outside of the water.
Body Areas It Can Be Used On
The Braun 7921 is primarily designed to remove hair on the legs and arms, but it can also remove hair on the underarms and bikini line. Some women have even removed hair on the chin and upperlip though it is not recommended to use this epilator for the face.
The directions state that the underarm and bikini line area are particularly sensitive to pain especially at the beginning. This is certainly true and it is not recommended for those new to epilation.
Though the underarms are extremely sensitive, you can epilate your underarms with this epilator. Be sure the area is free of all deodorant residue. When epilating the underarms, put your arm above your and head and pull the elbow back to make sure the skin is very taut. Loose skin can cause the tweezers to catch and briefly lock up on your skin. Removing all the hair from the underarm can be tough. In order to remove all the hair, you have to move the epilator in different directions.
While not exactly comfortable, the Braun 7921 works well to remove bikini line hair. However, it is very difficult to use this epilator below the bikini line for say a complete brazilian wax since it is difficult to hold the skin taut in that area. You can only go down so far without the epilator pinching the skin.
Performance
Unfortunately, this epilator only comes with one cap for epilation. It is missing the facial cap, underarm cap, efficiency cap, and shaver head. For the price we wish Braun included everything. While most of the attachments on the Braun 7681 were bulky, we were disappointed to learn that Braun has left out the efficiency cap for more experienced users on this model. It’s on the Braun 7181, but surprisingly missing from this model. The efficiency cap is for more experienced users and helps to make better contact with the skin, helping to speed up the process. The massaging cap is fine for beginners, but some people more experienced with epilation might prefer to use the efficiency cap.
Since, epilation works best when hair is trimmed between 2 -5mm, it would have been nice if the shaver with trimmer head was also included.
Braun’s claim that it removes hair as small as a grain of sand is a bit overstated. Like all other epilators, it will not leave you perfectly smooth. With the massaging cap included on this model it can be more difficult to grab some of the smaller hairs. In contrast, the efficiency cap on Braun 7681, tends to remove hair faster and more efficiently with a fewer amount of passes.
Pain
Braun claims that high frequency vibrations on the massaging cap help reduce discomfort and pain. The rollers at the edge of the cap vibrate which is supposed to massage the skin. However, the massaging cap doesn’t reduce the amount of pain a whole lot.
Certain areas are particularly sensitive to pain, especially around bony areas and areas with coarse hair. Don’t expect to epilate the underarms or bikini line without any pain. It can be very painful in these areas.
The amount of pain depends on your experience with hair removal. If it’s your first time or you wait very long between epilation sessions, it tends to hurt more. The more you epilate, the more your skin will adapt to the level of pain.
Cleanup
The Braun 7921 is easy to clean, since you can rinse the components under water. To clean it while dry, dip the supplied cleaning brush in a little rubbing alcohol and brush the tweezer head.
What Others Are Saying
There is a lot of hype around Braun’s latest epilator. Song writer, Sofie Winterson, is the face of the new commercial for the Braun Skin Spa Epilator 7921.
Dr. Benedetta Brazzini loved that the new epilator includes an exfoliation head.
Beauty Blogger, Huda Heidi Kattan, loved that the exfoliating head left her skin feeling super soft. She says it made her skin look cleaner and smoother.
On Amazon, most of the Braun Silk Epil 7921 reviews are overwhelmingly positive. The Braun se7921 is scoring an average 4.2 out of 5 with over 100 reviews.
Summary
It’s hard to recommend the Braun 7921 over the other epilators in the Braun Silk 7 line. While it is a good epilator on its own, it is missing some of the most useful attachments of the Braun 7681, namely the efficiency cap. We don’t know why Braun chose to omit some of the accessories on this model as its priced very closely to the Braun 7681. If it included all the accessories along with the exfoliation brush, we would have no hesitation recommending it. As it stands, we prefer the Braun 7681.
While the exfoliating brush helps keeps legs smooth and helps prevent ingrowns, it alone can’t justify the purchase of this epilator.
